Local Mum Laura Deal
Where and how long have you lived in Sydney's east:
I moved to Australia and straight to Bondi in 2005 from the UK. Whilst in Australia I have never left the Eastern Suburbs and lived only in Bondi, Centennial Park, Coogee and Randwick. We had a 4 year stint in Singapore and returned in 2017.
How many children:
I have 2 children; Alfie (5) and Eve (3)
Without a doubt my favourite park is Centennial Park. There’s so much to do there with the kids and I like to run there myself.
Clovelly as I feel I can relax here when with the kids though I also love Camp Cove.
Favourite kid friendly cafe:
It has to be The Shed at Queens Park!
Favourite Coffee Spot:
I’m a big coffee drinker. I like Diver Cafe in Coogee or Gusto
Favourite date night place:
We live near the spot so have a few favs there within walking distance. Thai riffic, mamas and papas or Del punto. We love a byo but also enjoy a cocktail at bat country!
Favourite Local Day Out Activity:
My kids love the Powerhouse Museum or the Zoo. Sometimes we just hang out at Centennial Park!
Favourite Local Shop:
I do love a browse in black boho in Coogee and I’m a big Mr Zimi fan so enjoy visiting the Bondi store!
Favourite wet weather location:
Powerhouse or Randwick Ritz!
Describe an ideal day in Sydney’s eastern suburbs for you?
I love being active and getting outdoors so my ideal day would at least be dry so I could get to the park or beach whether it was with the kids or enjoying some precious ‘me’ time and getting some exercise in! It would always involve a coffee and catching up with a friend.
What area of the east have you yet to explore much but would like to?
I have friends all over the East so have, over time, got to know different pockets. I love Vaucluse and Watson’s bay and it’s little hidden gems. Maroubra beach is becoming a new favourite as it’s just that little bit quieter and not far to go for us!
Work or SAHM:
I’m a SAHM primarily but love the flexibility Jellybeanstreet offers me. It’s great to do something for me!
Take the time just to hang out with the kids. Our lives can be so busy with activities etc. Embrace the challenging days as well as the good ones. They grow so fast!
Jellybeanstreet host children’s art workshops for ages 1-10 to encourage creative education and laughter.
The workshops can be done as simply an activity or parents can then opt for professional graphic artists to transform their children’s artwork into stunning masterpieces that can be purchased in either poster or canvas format.
We are proud to donate net profits from resold pieces to charities nominated by the artist and their parents.
I will be running school holiday workshops from 10th - 12th July 2019 at Moore Park Supa Centa. I’m happy to refund 15% or $5 back to anyone mentioning Eastern Suburbs mums.
